Should I schedule a free 15-minute consultation?
Schedule a free 15-minute consultation if you want to be sure MyLyfe Counseling is a good fit or if you still have questions about your specific needs and how therapy can help. If we are a good fit, we will proceed to scheduling your initial session. If not, that's ok. What's important is that you find support that's best for you!
Should I schedule an initial session?
Book an initial session if you feel you have enough information to comfortably get started with therapy. After booking the initial session you will be contacted to confirm the appointment. Once confirmed, you will receive initial paperwork and consent forms to review and complete before you meet with your therapist.
Do you accept health insurance?
MyLyfe Counseling Center only accepts major debit and credit cards, Health Savings Accounts (HSA), and Flexible Spending Accounts (FSA) as methods of payment at this time. If you're asking yourself "why," please check out this blog. It does an amazing job of explaining the shift you may have noticed when searching for a therapist who accepts your insurance.
Do you offer sliding scale rates?
At MyLyfe Counseling Center, it is understood that people sometimes face financial hardships. If this is the case for you, we have a limited number of slots available for an income-based sliding scale rate. This rate is available on a first come first serve basis and may be limited to a certain amount of sessions. If this option is not available at the time you request services, feel free to ask for a referral list of free or low cost counseling services.
How long does each therapy session take?
A typical psychotherapy session is scheduled for 50 minutes. If you arrive late to your scheduled appointment you will miss some of your session time. You and your therapist will discuss if your needs and concerns require more or less time than what is typically scheduled.
I'm new to this, how long will I be in therapy once I start?
I'm proud of you for taking this step! Self-care isn't always easy. Now to answer the question. Everyone will have their own individual treatment plan. Your length of treatment will depend on your needs, therapeutic goals, your motivation to work towards growth, and level of consistency. Although results can't be guaranteed, on average, most people report positive changes within 6-12 sessions of consistent therapy. Some people also choose to continue mental health and wellness care for years to address day-to-day challenges or future-related planning and concerns.
What type of therapy will I receive?
I have an integrative psychotherapy approach which means I use a variety of therapy models including EMDR, CBT, Mindfulness and others depending on your individual life's trauma, symptoms or experiences. We will collaborate to discuss the best form of treatment for you.
What is racial trauma?

If this is your lived experience, there is treatment available to help you process and cope with ongoing racial stressors.
What is EMDR?
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is an eight-phase treatment using eye movements or other forms of bilateral stimulation including audio or tapping. After the therapist and client has determined which memory to target first, the client is asked to hold different aspects of that event or thought in mind and to use their eyes to track the therapist’s hand as it moves back and forth across the client’s field of vision. EMDR addresses the unprocessed memories that appear to set the basis for a wide range of presenting complaints including trauma, depression, somatic conditions, anxiety, or excessive grief.
What is CBT?
Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a form of psychological treatment that focuses on challenging and changing unhelpful cognitive distortions and behaviors, improving emotional regulation, and the development of personal coping skills that target solving current problems.
